Celebrating Life Cycles- Collage Workshops

Celebrating Life Cycles: Community Art Workshops take place alongside the Bardo ∞ Project art exhibitions in gallery spaces. The first iteration was a week-long artist residency at the Grady Alexis Gallery at El Taller Latino in East Harlem in 2018. The free, all ages, drop-in workshops provide beautiful art making materials sourced at Materials for the Arts, and are designed to spark public dialogue about life cycles and what constitutes compassionate end of life care. The community experiences creativity, inspiration and information about an important topic that affects us all. Sharing of stories of loss and community are encouraged and the participants get to keep their art works. Advocacy materials on end of life care planning information are available to the public from Compassion and Choices “Conversation Project” starter kits, Living Will, and Healthcare Proxy forms.

FUNDING ACKNOWLEDGMENTS
The first art workshop and Bardo ∞ Project exhibition were made possible in part with a 2018 Creative Engagement grant from the Upper Manhattan Empowerment Zone Development Corporation (UMEZ) administered by the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council; an inaugural grant designed to provide arts programming for the underserved area of Harlem and uptown. Additional materials were provided by the MFTA. Special thanks to the Grady Alexis Gallery and El Taller Latino Americano.
2021 collage workshop and exhibition were made possible in part with a 2021 Creative Engagement grant from (UMEZ) administered by the LMCC.
2024 'Bardo Project: Oregon' exhibition with related art and end of life care workshops at Portland Arts Collective Gallery were made possible in part by a RACC ArtsC3 Grant.
